prolonged economic downhill conditions (no matter what we're told, it ain't over till the fat lady sings!) are leading to less and less demand. No job, no money, no need to drive either.

In general, that's what happens when times are tough, unemployment is high, then you come close to doubling the price in the past 10 years

Pump prices will not be significantly lower. Increased exports will keep prices from dropping.

Wonder what the reason could be? Does it have anything to do with the high cost of driving?

“Too many electric cars.”
Ha! Possibly they could account for a 0.1% drop but not 2%. The main cause is greater fuel efficiency and fewer miles traveled.

The US consumer IS capable of using less fuel. My teenagers take turns carpooling with friends and all throwing in on the gas! In my day, if you had a car, you drove it everywhere. Different mind set today. A good thing.

So now we have to pay more in taxes to make up for the shortfall. Or else they'll turn all the highways into toll roads.

Actually, the recession began in late 2007.
I was working 10:30-7:00 around those days so I could listen to NPR Morning Edition before heading to work and NPR All Things Considered before heading home. Most of 2008 was spent anticipating "which company will go bankrupt today?"
Remember, TARP was a Bush-43 program.
Things started turning around in the middle of 2009 although it was September before I went into an involuntary retirement.

Do you know many Democrats that say we should lower taxes on investing, @texashoudini? Show me a speculator and I'll bet he or she is a Republican. Almost a sure thing as far as bets go.
