so we're transporting tar sands (bitumen) oil, which was gained using lots of energy, then using more energy to bring it to the Gulf Coast, and finally refine it in the US where more carbon than from any other petroleum is being released. Only to export most of that (and that's by the actual admissions of Pig Oil executives).

Our dear leader did not approve keystone. This and the de-valuation of the dollar means higher prices at the pump.

Move more by rail for now, but the US and Canada will not get lower fuel prices with more oil, as it and fuel prices are going up, now that they CAN move more. They sell the refined oil in other countries for higher prices, making the prices because of inventory, higher in the US and Canada. Keep it at home, lower the prices, but that will not happen, so we move to an alternative and let them have their oil.

Rail may be statistically less safe than pipeline to transport oil, @us4usa, but at least there's a finite amount of oil that can be spilled from a train.
It takes hours to shut down a pipeline when there's a breach.

Wait till one of those trains derail and the damages to the environment they will cause. Trains are way more dangerous then pipelines.

Yes, @Yonkers111. Let America do the refining. Unfortunately, after refining, the petroleum products are exported out of America and gas prices still stay high.

Well, that's an unfortunate use of the word "dunped".

Ship all ya want, but (and that is a big but) the price is not coming down. It's the dumb bells on the CBT that control the price.

There were always more options other than pipelines. With rail they can go any direction they want. The problem with the Mississippi is the drought and low water levels which lowers barge capacity. Their plan is still to get the bitumen to Louisiana refineries, for refining into gasoline or diesel for export? That leaves the good ole USA with the residue, chemicals, and pollution. Same outcome. They want to dilute the nasty stuff with lighter grades and get a price of $100 a barrel for stuff that cost them a little over $13 a barrel? No, it will not bring down oil or gasoline prices! The plan is to get Canada golden goose to market and get better world price for it. The same thing is going on here with our natural gas and they Big Energy wants to get world market prices for it. But (big Energy) wants you to convince congress that it is a good thing for America to export our natural gas in the form of LNG on the world market. If that happens, we will pay more for fuel gas and heating.
